HISTORY OF ‘PRIDE’
The vendor came across her in 2001 and in great need of attention she is a William priestly /Eric Bergqvist Plug.
The Mould /pod was taken from the last of the Morecambe Bay Prawner’s her name was Kathleen. Kathleen now has a place in the Liverpool maritime collection.
He later learnt that Eric Bergqvist took 28 moulds and one was fully completed for the 1983 Boat show .
The Morecambe Bay Prawner is known as a Nobby. The name comes from a Lancashire term (Nobby) We understand it means repairs was made from any old wood during the 1840 through to the 1920’s.
To bring her to life the vendor covered almost all of the boat jumble’s in England to come up with the genuine materials and equipment. The hard wood is mahogany for the stepped mast hatches doors winch bases and entry into the cabin come from a disused 1930 snooker table. The tiller being the best buy (£10.00 ) from Netley Point boat jumble.
The led ballast is melted down wheel balancing weights 1&1/2 ton.
Pride is a total of 4 tons. she took 2yrs to build her and during that build the vendor found a pound coin stuck to her Hog that encouraged him to look further afield and found she had been registered by the name of Pride.
That was a very nice piece of information as in 1992/3 the vendor was a crew member on the British Steel Challenge round the world yacht race. The Vessel he raced round the World was Pride of Teeside so that made for a speedy completion.
She was under sail for the first time in 2004.
She has on many occasions been taken as an original vessel she grounds perfectly and sails like a dream and is the ideal boat for the east coast.
Regarding the condition of the boat, she is not as good looking as she was in restored condition, but the attached photos have been taken in 2014/15.
Pride has been in the water through out her life until she had to have an out of water survey in March 2010 and the Hull is as dry as a bone.
Surveyors reports can be made available it does give a value but I think Pride’s present value can only be judged on its Rigging by T.S.Rigging Sails by Southern Sails Nav equipment that fits in well with the style of boat and fittings ( most are Genuine parts ) that the vendor have covered the whole of the U.K boat Jumbles for , Plus of course a superb hull design that you would think it was wood it even has the planking marks and some barnacles to show it of .
Moving to the deck, because of ongoing health reasons the vendor was not able to keep up to the mark on the corking and in 2009/10 , he had tread lay put down the stern still shows the teak planking round the push pit, along with the carbon winches ect.
The cabin is double lined the outer and inner cabin need attention.
The entry doors into the cabin need attention /replacing.
So as for the cabin it needs replacing but it could be repaired so major attention required.
Inside the cabin forward is ok, mid ships ok but the draws ect fit very tight but ok on a warm day.
Cushions ok but the buttons on the cushions some have popped and the vendor has 4yds of the same material to make good.
NOTE – Surveys were carried out in March 2002 and 2010. Copies of which are available on request.
