2011 A SPECTACULAR YEAR AT THE SKEGNESS SALEROOM

Last Thursday 8th December saw the final auction of the year at the Mart Saleroom here in Skegness.  Turner Evans Stevens who have operated a saleroom in Skegness for over 50 years consider this to be one of their most successful years in The Mart despite the uncertain economic conditions.

Auctioneer Jonathan Booth confirms that he has witnessed a substantial increase in interest generated in the Saleroom from both sellers and buyers which has seen all 16 Auctions this year being well attended with over 8,000 lots going “under the hammer”.

2011 commenced on a particularly bright note with the opening January sale including items for the Estate of noted Skegness Historian, Winston Kime which contained his exceptional collection of Lincolnshire Directories and Reference Books which achieved prices upto £250, which together with impressive collections of medals, silverware and a rare Royal Doulton jug led to a very active saleroom.

The remaining year has brought forward a wealth of interesting items, furniture, china and gold/silver which has allowed an Auction every 3 weeks.  Successfully incorporated in these sales have been private collections of vintage cameras, Royal Albert Old Country Rose China, Royal Doulton Bunnykins and Victorian Cranberry glassware.  There has also been a good supply of highly collectable studio ceramics including Moorcroft and Troika which have commanded prices of upto £480.

Within the 2011 calendar were also included 2 dedicated special sales from private collections, the first Auction containing 300 lots of O, OO and N gauge railway equipment and the second Auction containing approx 20,000 coins including Roman, Mediterranean, English from 1100 AD, Tokens, Banknotes and foreign.
